Lynchburg Women’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry 76-65, Tuesday Evening

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Lynchburg Women's Basketball Team (5-1, 4-1 ODAC) used a strong second half to pick up a 76-65 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-5, 2-3 ODAC) in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

How It Happened
- E&H led 6-2 early in the opening quarter but the two teams traded baskets for an 18-all tie through 10 minutes of play.
- The Wasps opened the second with an 11-4 run to go up 29-22 with 7:25 on the clock. Emory & Henry pushed its lead to 36-26 with less than three minutes to go before the break and took a 36-28 advantage into the intermission.
- Emory & Henry extended the margin to 11 (42-31) early in the third frame but a 17-6 run by Lynchburg gave the Hornets a 49-48 lead going into the final quarter.
- Lynchburg and E&H traded baskets early in the fourth but the Hornets grabbed a 63-57 advantage with 5:04 to play. The Hornets would lead by as much as 12 (75-63) in the final minute of the contest as they claimed the 76-65 come-from-behind victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) put up 12 points and added six rebound while freshman forward Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) posted 12 points and five boards.
- Senior guard Kylea Cooper (Hickory, N.C.) notched nine points, five assists and three rebounds while three different Wasps added six points apiece.

Lynchburg Individual Leaders
- Maggie Quarles led all players with 20 points, squirrelling away nine rebounds and two assists.
- Abby Oguich had 15 points and nine boards while Erin Green tacked on 15 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists.
- Lizzie Davis and Sammie Sever contributed 13 points each.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 37.5 percent (21-for-56) from the field making just seven shots in the second half. The Wasps were a perfect 21-for-21 from the free throw line.
- Lynchburg went 29-for-59 (49.2%) on the evening making five three-pointers. The Hornets converted on 76.5% (13-of-17) of their free throws.
- The Hornets led a 37-24 rebounding advantage and outscored the Wasps, 46-38, on points in the paint.
- E&H had its fewest miscues of the season, and outscored Lynchburg, 15-6, on points off turnovers.

- Emory & Henry will return to the court on Sunday when it takes on Virginia Wesleyan University in ODAC completion. The contest will take place on the campus of University of Lynchburg at 3:30 p.m.
