The Lead: The Roanoke College men's basketball team traveled to Bridgewater to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles would lead by as many as eight in the first half, but the Maroons closed with a 17-9 run to go into the break tied, 33-33. Roanoke trailed 41-40 with 15-minutes left to play but would use a 15-3 surge over the next five-minutes of play to take control. Bridgewater would get to within four, but the Maroons put the game away down the stretch for the 67-58 win.

How it Happened:

  • Efosa U-Edosomwan scored the game's first hoop but Bridgewater would answer right away and build a 24-16 lead at the 10:31 mark of the opening half.
  • Tripp Greene got the comeback underway with a three-pointer. Kasey Draper hit a 3-ball followed by a Greene layup and the deficit was cut to 26-25. With 5:22 on the clock, Nick Price put the Maroons back in front 29-28 but neither team could pull away and the game would go into the break tied, 33-33.
  • Down three, Price tied the game but the Eagles would retake the advantage. Draper connected on a jump shot with 13:52 left to play that would trigger a Maroon run that would allow Roanoke to earn some breathing room.
  • The Eagles would make one last run, cutting the score to 54-50 but a pair of U-Edosomwan free throws would snap the run and allow Roanoke to pull away for the 67-58 win.
  • Draper came into the game needing eight points to become the most recent member of the Roanoke College 1,000-point club. The junior finished with a game high 20 while U-Edosomwan recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Greene finished with 12 giving the Maroons a trio of double-digit scorers.

Up next: The Maroons finished the regular season with the #5 seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings and will face #4 Washington and Lee in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Basketball Tournament. The game with the Generals is scheduled for Thursday at 3:00pm in the Salem Civic Center.
