Emory & Henry Baseball Takes Care Of Maryville, 8-3, Tuesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (4-7) scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth on its way to an 8-3 non-conference win over Maryville (Tenn.) College (5-12) Tuesday afternoon at home.

How It Happened
The Wasps struck in the bottom of the second inning with freshman third baseman Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.) drove in senior first baseman Joe Tolone (Concord, N.C.) with a single to third base. E&H made it a 3-0 game after three as junior designated hitter Koty Proctor (Archdale, N.C.) singled through the right side and senior left fielder Jacob Zoller (Culpeper, Va.) drew a bases-loaded walk.

Maryville got a run back in the top of the fourth as Kendall Catlett doubled to plate Jack Shuttleworth. Senior shortstop Caleb Haynes (Covington, Va.) pushed the margin to 4-1 with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

In the seventh, MC closed the gap to 4-3 with a pair of runs including a bases-loaded walk by Ryan Jones and a sacrifice fly by Marshall Smith. Emory & Henry scored four times in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Freshman centerfielder Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) and senior right fielder Hayden Milley (Clover, S.C.) both had RBI base hits in the inning as the Wasps claimed the 8-3 victory.

Freshman Will Clark (Collinsville, N.C.) picked up the win on the hill, allowing one run on three hits in six innings of work with two strikeouts. Freshman Jackson Arnold (Front Royal, Va.) earned the save, striking out one in the final inning of the game. Maryville's Jacob Hanson suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings pitched.

Emory & Henry will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday when it visits Roanoke College. First pitch will be at 7:00 p.m.
