Men’s Lacrosse Drops Randolph in Season Opener, 17-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team opened their season with a commanding 17-1 victory over Randolph College. John Glaser (Cincinnati, OH) led the way with five goals followed by Rob Koster (Vienna, Va.) with three.

The Captains jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter with the first goal coming from Chase Walton (Burke, Va.) as the Captains were a man-up following a pushing penalty on Randolph. Koster picked up two of the remaining Captain goals in the quarter.

Glaser started the second quarter with his second goal of the game less than a minute in. The Captains added two more before Randolph scored their lone goal in the game coming from Cam Garrison.

The Captains added two goals in the third period and put five more on the board in the fourth giving them a 17-1 win.

The Captains won 17 of 22 face offs with Greg Basch (Rochester, N.Y.) earning 12 and Ari Elgort (Charlottesville, Va.) getting the remaining five.

Teddy Pekalski (Cranston, R.I.) led the team in caused turnovers with four and ground balls with eight. Walton and Alex Elliott (VA Beach, VA) followed with three caused turnovers apiece.

CNU outshot Randolph 52 to 17 and picked up 53 ground balls to Randolph's 37.

Andy McGregor (Springfield, Va.) earned the win with two saves and only allowing one goal.

The Captains return to action as they host Southwestern University at Captains Field on Friday, February 25th at 7:00pm.
