The Lead: Roanoke College played host to longtime rival Washington and Lee on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons would strike first, but the Generals would net the game tying goal with just over five minutes to play. Neither team would score in the two overtime periods and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Highlights:

  • The Generals would control much of the action during the opening stages of the match, forcing a Zach Behe save in the opening minute of play.
  • Both teams would play a physical game, resulting in five yellow cards being handed out throughout the afternoon, with the first coming less than three minutes into the matchup.
  • With just over 10 minutes until the half, a whistle in the W&L box would give the Maroons a penalty kick. Liam Camilleri would send the penalty into the back of the General's net for a 1-0 lead.
  • Neither team would get a good scoring chance the final 10 minutes and RC took their advantage into the break.
  • Again the Generals would have an early chance but the shot to the bottom right of the net was saved by Behe.
  • As the match headed into the final stages, Roanoke had a great opportunity to add to their lead. An Anthony Wisdo blast was blocked but Dylan Berk grabbed the rebound and sent a shot on net that was saved by Michael Nyc. However, the W&L keeper allowed another rebound but was able to recover to save Wisdo's final attempt.
  • With just over five minutes to play, the ball was loose in front of the Roanoke net and out of a five player scrum, the ball squirted to Austin Sholes, who was able to send a shot past the keeper and the match was tied.
  • At the end of regulation the score was 1-1, with Washington and Lee owning a 17-6 edge in shots.
  • The first extra frame would see Behe and Nyc each record a save, sending the match into a second overtime.
  • Each team would get scoring chances in the second OT but all three shots missed the mark and the match would end in a draw, 1-1.
  • Behe recorded five saves while Nyc registered four stops.

Up next: The Maroons will travel to Lynchburg to face the Hornets on Thursday night.
