Randolph Men’s Soccer Beats Emory & Henry Sunday In Season Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College Men's Soccer Team (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened up a 3-0 halftime lead on its way to an 8-1 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-1, 0-1 ODAC) Sunday afternoon in the first game of the season for both squads.

How It Happened
- Randolph's Ashton Poythress struck early in the seventh minute to give the WildCats a 1-0 lead. Goals by Evan Blow in the 12th and Gavin Leverette in the 42nd made it a 3-0 contest at the half.
- Six seconds after the second half commenced, Tucker Leverone extended the WildCats' advantage to 4-0 and Blow got his second goal of the game at the 52:02 mark for a 5-0 lead.
- Randolph continued to score, as Brandon Betts connected in the 57thh minute and Blow added two more for a four-goal game.
- Emory & Henry spoiled the shutout with 4:31 left to play as freshman midfielder Clarence Russell (Suffolk, Va.) found the back of the net for the final 8-1 score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Russell's goal came on the lone shot of the evening for the Wasps.
- Sophomores Spencer Scott (Stephens City, Va.) and Derek Akers (Hiwasee, Va.) split time in goal for E&H, each making five saves.

- Emory & Henry will be back in action next Sunday when it visits Hampden-Sydney College for a 5:00 p.m., contest with the Tigers.
