Lynchburg Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-0, To Open Season Sunday

EMORY, Va. – The University of Lynchburg Women's Soccer Team (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) used a pair of second half goals to grind out a 2-0 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action against Emory & Henry College (0-1, 0-1 ODAC) Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled through the opening half to a scoreless tie. The Hornets had five strong scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes, but the Wasps' defense held strong and kept Lynchburg out of the net.
- Ten minutes into the second period, Lynchburg found its way into the scoring column. Madison Myers played a pass across the six-yard box for Alyssa Damato to slot in the bottom right of the goal.
- The Hornets made it 2-0 in the 81st minute as Taylor Smith scored, assisted by Abbie Little.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- E&H managed just one shot on the afternoon, coming from junior midfielder Yasmin Thorpe (Mount Airy, Md.).
- Sophomore Natalie Capone (Concord, N.C.) made 13 saves in goal for the Wasps and intercepted several crosses which could have resulted in scoring opportunities for the Hornets.

Lynchburg Individual Leaders
- Damato finished the game with a goal on seven shots while Smith's score came on five attempts.
- Amanda Wigboldy led all players with 11 shots, but was unable to put one on target.
- A trio of goalkeepers shared the shutout for the Hornets.

- Emory & Henry will travel to Shenandoah University next Sunday for a 4:00 p.m., matchup against the Hornets.
