FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist and Roanoke battled in game three of the Soccer for a Cure Classic on Saturday before Roanoke came up with the 1-0 win.
The first half passed with both teams having opportunities but the game remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes. The Monarchs (1-3) out shot the Maroons (2-1) early in the second half, but Steph Paranteau broke through with a goal for Roanoke in the 78th minute. The Monarchs tried to make a late push, but Roanoke goalkeeper Lindsay Kooiman finished with the shutout on five saves.
Methodist goalkeeper
Kasey Nichols had nine saves in the loss.
The Monarchs will host Washington and Lee on Sunday at 2 pm in the final day of the Soccer for a Cure Classic.
