The Lead: The Maroons looked to end the regular season on a two-match win streak. After defeating Randolph College on Saturday, Roanoke welcomed Guilford to Kerr Stadium for the finale. The Maroons struck first, netting a goal at the 29-minute mark of the first half. Guilford would tie the match in the early stages of the second half before Roanoke finished the night with three straight scores to make it 4-1.

Highlights:

  • At the 24-minute mark, Roanoke appeared to take the lead but the score was waived off for offsides.
  • Five minutes later, Joe Carman sent a pass into the front of the keeper where Dylan Berk scored for the second consecutive match and Roanoke took the 1-0 edge into the break.
  • A little over two minutes into the second half, a long ball from the back line would bounce past the Roanoke defense and be deposited into the top part of the goal to tie the match at 1-1.
  • Roanoke answered when they were awarded a free kick after two Quaker yellow cards. Berk sent a pass to the far post that was headed into the goal by Quinn Kunath, allowing RC to re-take the lead with 28 minutes left to play.
  • The 71st minute would see Nathan Carey added to the RC lead off a pass from Liam Camilleri through the defense.
  • A handball in the box in the final five minutes would award Roanoke a Penalty Kick. Gabriel Hendi deposited the PK into the low right corner for the final score of the night.
  • Zach Behe notched his ninth win of the season, recording a save.

Up next: Roanoke awaits the end of the regular season matchups to see where they will finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings so that the quarterfinals of the 2021 ODAC Tournament can be set.
