FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team started the 2009 season off on the right foot with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-18) victory over Randolph College.
The Monarchs (1-0) led throughout the entire first set. Methodist put together five service aces to cruise to the 25-18 victory over the Wildcats (0-1). Methodist took an early lead in the second set with back-to-back kills from freshman
Stephanie Wood. Randolph scored two late points, but Wood added another kill and sophomore
Kelsey Yates finished the set with an ace to win 25-17.
In the third set, Methodist took a 3-2 lead, but the Wildcats went on the offensive and took a 10-7 lead. Methodist responded and regained the lead at 15-14. The Monarchs finished with the 25-18 win to secure the match victory.
Sophomore
Jalesty Washington led the Monarchs with 10 kills while Wood had seven and senior
Taylor Cates added six. Senior
Jordan Grady led the team with five digs while sophomore
Kayci Miller had 25 assists.
Kristen Spinner led Randolph with nine kills.
The Monarchs will be back at home on Friday when they take on Mt. Aloysius at 7 pm.
