Bishops End 2022 With A Bang; Victory Over Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VAThe North Carolina Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team traveled to Lynchburg, VA and defeated the Hornets of Lynchburg by a score of 61 to 57.

In a back and forth first quarter that saw multiple lead changes; the Bishops ended the first quarter down by two points to enter into the second quarter with a score of 13-11

The second quarter saw the Bishops get hot as the Bishops took a one-point lead with 7:06 left in the second half, while also kicking off a 17-2 run to lead by nine at the half, 32-23.

The Hornets quickly erased the Bishops lead with an 8-0 run their own in the beginning of the third quarter to bring the game back to striking distance, then to go on another 10-0 run to put some pressure on the Bishops.

The Battling Bishops did just that to "Battle" back in the fourth quarter outscoring Lynchburg 19 to 9 to put the game away. The Battling Bishops defeated the Hornets by 61 to 57.

The Bishops had three players to score in the double digits. The leading scorer for the Bishops was Nadia Simmons, the junior from Henderson, NC, with 13 points off of a 3 of 7 shooting performance from the floor and 7 of 10 from behind the free throw line. Simmons also contributed 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in her defensive game against the Hornets. Following Simmons lead was Bishops' Kayrisma Harrison, the senior from Weldon, NC, scoring 12 points with a 6 of 8 shooting performance form the floor. Harrison also contributed 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 blocks in her defensive game against the Hornets. Bishops' Johnay Goddard, the junior from Williamston, NC, scored 12 points shooting 6 of 9 from the floor. Goddard also adding 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in her defensive game to contribute to the Battling Bishops against the Hornets of Lynchburg.

The Bishops will travel to play Salem this Friday 6:00PM to open up the New Year.
