Gophers Slow 20th-Ranked Roanoke's Offense in Setback

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's basketball team held 20th-ranked Roanoke 20 points below its season average as the Maroons posted a 60-39 non-conference victory Tuesday night at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. The 60 points was a season-low for Roanoke.
- The game got off to a slow start, with Roanoke (5-0) holding a 5-2 lead six minutes in.
- The Maroons opened up a 15-5 lead with eight minutes to go in the half following a pair of free throws.
- Goucher (2-3) went scoreless for over six minutes until a basket by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) at the 6:37 mark.
- A Lichti three with just over four minutes left pulled the Gophers within seven, 19-12.
- The Maroons scored the final four points of the half and went into the break up 25-14.
- Roanoke scored the first seven points of the second half to go up 32-14.
- A steal and layup by Tevin Venson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) just over three minutes in were Goucher's first points of the half.
- The Maroons took a 39-18 lead six minutes into the final frame.
- A basket by Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) with 12 minutes to go pulled the Gophers within 39-22.
- The Gophers got within 17 one more time on a deep three by Justin Salisbury (Churchton, Md./Southern) with just under eight minutes left.
- The Maroons led by as many as 26 down the stretch.
- Lichti paced the Gophers with 11 points on 4-5 shooting and also had three steals.
- Drew Pitts (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) finished with six points off the bench going 3-5.
- Octavius Johnson (Houston, Texas/Pasadena Memorial) and Ryan Conde (Ewing, N.J./Solebury School) each grabbed six rebounds for Goucher.
- Roanoke, which shot a season low 39.7% after shooting over 50% in each of its first four wins, outrebounded the Gophers 49-35.
- Goucher shot 29% overall and was 2-12 behind the arc, while the Maroons were 3-15 from long range.

- Goucher returns to action next Wednesday, December 1 when it travels to Gwynedd Mercy for a 7 pm non-conference contest.
- The Gophers are back home and open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, December 4 when they host Drew in a 2 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
