The Lead: Roanoke traveled to Lexington on Sunday afternoon for a match with the undefeated Generals of Washington and Lee. The home team would take the opener before Roanoke tied it a set apiece. However, the Generals would take the next two sets for the 3-1 ODAC win.

How it Happened:

First Set:

  • With the scored tied at 6-6, W&L would go on a 12-4 run to seize control.
  • A service ace by Parker Moody and kill by Ryanna Clark would close the gap to 20-16 but the Maroons could not complete the comeback and fell down 1-0.

Second Set:

  • Roanoke scored the first point of the second set when Clark recorded a kill off an Olivia Newman assist and the Maroons would never trail.
  • Back-to-back attack errors by the Generals would give Roanoke their largest lead of the set, 22-13.
  • RC out-hit their hosts 13-10 in the set victory.

Third Set:

  • Linsey Bailey recorded a kill on the first point of the match, but W&L would score three straight and six of the next eight to take control of the set.
  • Roanoke rallied and after another Clark kill, the set was tied at 8-8.
  • A pair of Washington and Lee attack errors and kills by Clark and Claire Williams would see the Maroons with a 13-11 advantage.
  • However, the Generals would close the frame on a 14-3 run to take a 2-1 advantage.

Fourth Set:

  • In a tightly contested fourth set, the score would be tied late, 18-18.
  • W&L scored four of the next five before kills by Moody and Newman coupled with a miscue would tighten the match.
  • Roanoke would trail by two, 23-21, but the Generals closed out the set and the match by winning two of the final three points.

Highlights:

  • Clark led the attack with 13 kills with Bailey and Moody each adding nine.
  • Newman handed out 30 assists while Moody and Kennedy Clemmer combined for seven service aces.
  • A quartet of Maroons recorded double digit digs. Katie Finlan (19), Clemmer (18), Bailey (11), and Newman (10).
  • Clark and Moody each had a solo and two assisted blocks.
