Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Randolph

Box Score Allentown, PA (November 16, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (0-1) dropped their season opener to Randolph College (1-0) this afternoon, 69-66 in the Scotty Wood Tournament at Muhlenberg. The Knights had leads of 15 points in the first half and eight points in the second half get away. Colin McCarthy scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Knights. Arcadia will take on Drew tomorrow in the Consolation game at 3pm.

"We played hard with a lot of energy tonight, but we just couldn't finish at the end of the game," said Arcadia Head Coach Justin Scott. "The good thing about playing in a tournament is that you have to have a short memory, come back tomorrow and put the loss behind us."

Arcadia started the game strong as they took a 5-5 game and turned it into an 18-7 lead with a 13-2 run. They continued to hold the lead and extended it to 15 points at 25-10 with 10:33 to play in the opening half. After a pair of free throws by McCarthy the Knights had a 32-20 lead at the 4:14 mark, but Randolph ended the half on a 12-0 run, making the score 32-32 headed into the break.

The Knights again started quickly in the second half jumping out in front, using an 10-2 run to take a 42-34 lead with 17:22 to play. Randolph got to within one point at 49-48, but a 6-0 spurt by Arcadia pushed the advantage back to seven at 55-48 at the 8:09 mark. Randolph then used a 9-2 run to tie the game 57 with just over five minutes to play.

The game was tied again at 64 at the 2:29 mark, but Randolph scored four straight for a 68-64 lead with :40-seconds to play. Travis Saltus made it 68-66 with nine seconds left. Randolph then went 1-2 from the line and the Knights turned the ball over on their final possession, making the final score 69-66.

McCarthy was 4-8 from the field and have five rebounds and two assists. Khalief Trawick added 14 points and five rebounds, while Joe Brown had 13 points and five rebounds. The Knights shot 44.9% from the field, but Randolph shot 57%. Arcadia won the board battle 27-21.
