The Basics
Score: Roanoke 5 | Randolph 1

Records: Maroons 7-1-1 / 1-0-1 ODAC | WildCats 4-5-0 / 1-1-0 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: After opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a 1-1 draw at Washington and Lee, the Roanoke women's soccer team welcomed Randolph to Kerr Stadium for a mid-week matchup. Two scores in the first 15 minutes would see Roanoke take control early. A WildCat score made it 3-1 at the half. The second 45 minutes belonged to the Maroons as they pulled away for the 5-1 ODAC victory.

Highlights:

  • The Maroons would strike first when Eliza Ryan made a perfect throw-in that bounced over the defender to the awaiting MC Petrucelli for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Just two minutes later Petrucelli netted her second goal of the afternoon off a feed by Makayla Metzler.
  • Randolph would cut the deficit in half with a pass over the defense and Sara Bane won a foot race to make it 2-1 RC.
  • With 6:30 left before the half, Analiese Schwartz sent a ball through the defense that Morgan O'Neill picked up, crossed-over a defender and sent a shot just beyond the reach of the keeper for a 3-1 RC lead at the half.
  • O'Neill looked to score her second of the afternoon when she took a pass from Petrucelli but the shot went squarely off the right post. However, the ball came right back to O'Neill, and as she and the defender battled, Morgan was able to send the ball into the open net for the 4-1 advantage.
  • At the 62-minute mark, Metzler took a ball and dribbled into the zone, sending a long shot to the low left corner of the net.
  • Carrington Lippi picked up the win in goal, playing the entire first half, recording a pair of saves.

Up next: Roanoke is scheduled to play host to Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 2:00pm. The match will start after the conclusion of the Roanoke/St. Mary's field hockey game in Kerr Stadium.
