Men’s Hoops Falls to No. 15 Randolph-Macon in Tourney Championship

ASHLAND, Va. – Facing its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the Drew University men's basketball team dropped an 84-50 decision to No. 15 Randolph-Macon College Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Randolph-Macon Coaches Tournament. Junior guard Riley Collins led the Rangers (8-3) with 11 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team. The game marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

How it Happened: The Rangers never led and trailed by double digits most of the way. It was an 8-8 game four minutes into the contest before the Yellow Jackets (12-1) used a 13-1 run to open up a 21-9 lead. The hosts would gradually pull away and went into halftime leading 43-24. A 9-2 surge early in the second half pushed RMC's lead to 23 and Drew was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

Top Performers: Collins also dished out four assists and tied a career-high with six steals for the Rangers. Senior guard Darius Reiter added eight points while senior forward Nate Aldrich and junior guard Cole Hanntz contributed six points apiece.

Stat Sheet: Randolph-Macon shot 50.8 percent for the game, including 48.3 percent (14-29) from 3-point territory. The Rangers connected on 36.5 percent of their shots and were out-rebounded 49-22.

Next Up: Drew plays its final regular-season non-conference game on Wednesday, when it visits King's College at 7 p.m.
