No. 35 Shenandoah Baseball Takes Two From Emory & Henry Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The No. 35 Shenandoah University Baseball Team (8-1, 5-0 ODAC) picked up a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins against Emory & Henry College (0-4, 0-4 ODAC) Saturday afternoon. The Hornets got the day started with a 7-0 win and completed the sweep with a 12-4 victory.

Game One – No. 35 Shenandoah 7, Emory & Henry 0
SU got on the board in top of the first on a bases-loaded balk which scored Frankie Ritter. Both teams settled into the contest until the top of the seventh when the Hornets pushed the score to 4-0 on a three-run home run by Grant Thompson.

Shenandoah put up a trio of insurance runs in the eighth highlighted by A.J. Ward's two-run doubled to centerfield for the final 7-0 margin.

Tad Dean earned the shutout victory for SU, allowing just two hits while striking out seven with no walks. E&H senior Noah Griffin (Fort Mill, S.C.) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in seven innings of work.

Game Two – No. 35 Shenandoah 12, Emory & Henry 4
The Hornets jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first with Colby Martin hitting a three-run home run to get things started. A Pearce Bucher highlighted a three-run second with a double to centerfield which drove in two. In the third, Ward made it 10-0 on a double to right.

Emory & Henry got on the board in the fourth as sophomore catcher Nathan Treadway (Valdese, N.C.) and senior shortstop Caleb Haynes (Covington, Va.) had RBI base hits to make the score 10-2. SU answered in the top of the sixth with an infield single by Ritter before freshman centerfielder Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) and Treadway put up RBI singles to close the gap to 11-4. Bucher capped the scoring for the Hornets in the top of the ninth with an infield single, 12-4.

Calvin Pastel went five innings to earn the win for the Hornets, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Senior left-hander J.T. Agosto (Cornelius, N.C.) was settled with the loss, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits.
