No. 18 Lynchburg downs Scots

Zoe Semersky LYNCHBURG, Pa. -- The College of Wooster field hockey team fell 5-1 to 18th-ranked Lynchburg University on Sunday in a late non-conference matchup.

Ashley Reynolds closed the game on a high note for the Scots as the first-year scored her first collegiate goal. Senior Katie Agatucci put a ball through to the middle and found Reynolds next to cage.

Otherwise, Lynchburg was consistent, scoring in each period. They came out and put together 10 shots in the first period, but to the Scots' credit, just one got through in the 13th minute.

The Hornets then took control in the second period scoring two goals within 52 seconds to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.

In the third, Lynchburg once again came out aggressive with 12 shots in the period, but once again, the Scots were able to minimize the damage, allowing just one goal in the 42nd minute.

Lynchburg went up five in the 51st minute before Reynolds scored in the 55th minute.

The Hornets ended up outshooting the Scots 35-9 and took 14 penalty corners to Wooster's four.

Zoë Semersky made 14 saves in the loss. Lucy Segal played the final 5:44 but did not have an opportunity for a save.

Wooster moves to 7-7 overall, while Lynchburg moves to 11-5.

Wooster heads back east Tuesday when they face Allegheny College in a return to North Coast Athletic Conference action.
