The Lead: The Maroons would get the 2021 campaign off to a good start when they hosted William Peace on Saturday afternoon. Roanoke would pitch a shutout in the third quarter as they pulled away from the Pacers on their way to a 25-8, season opening, win.

How it Happened:

  • Luca Docking got the afternoon off to a quick start, netting the game's first score less than three minutes after the opening faceoff.
  • Up 2-0, Ethan Caldwell set up Sean Kennedy before scoring a goal of his own in a two minute span.
  • After a Pacer score, George Gilbert made it 6-1 after 15 minutes of play.
  • William Peace would get the second period started but a 3-0 Roanoke run would be capped once again by a Caldwell assist then goal to make it 9-2.
  • Down a man, Owen Curry scored on a Caldwell assist as the duo would repeat their efforts 1:30 later and when Luke Kammerman scored the lead would be 14-4 at the half.
  • RC would score eight unanswered goals during a third quarter that would see Roanoke enjoy a 21-3 edge in shots.
  • William Peace would out-score the Maroons 4-3 in the final stanza but it wasn't enough as the Roanoke cruised to a 25-8 season opening win.
  • Kammerman had four goals and a pair of assists while Caldwell scored three times with five helpers. Curry and Docking also added three goals apiece. Austin Gambino would win 25 of his 33 face-offs with Matt Federau picking up the win in net while registering four saves.
