The Basics
Game 1

Score: Emory & Henry 5, Roanoke 4
Records: Maroons 8-7, 0-1 ODAC | Wasps 7-9, 1-0 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: RC held an early lead before an Emory & Henry rally gave the Wasps a two-run advantage. A late Maroon run closed the gap, but Roanoke would fall in their ODAC debut.

How it Happened:

  • The Wasps would take the lead on a RBI triple in the top of the third.
  • In the bottom of the frame, the Maroons would answer with a three spot to take the lead. Brooke Trapuzzano lead off the inning with a single to right. Meri Bostic sent a ground ball to third, but the throw went into right field to score Trapuzzano and put Bostic on third base. Serenity Bishop sent a shot to short and another E&H miscue would give the Maroons the lead.
  • After a double play, RC would add a two-out run to make it 3-1. Makayla Austin drew a free pass and moved to third on a Megan Lee double. Rachel Sirbaugh added a RBI single to plate Austin before Lee got thrown out at the plate trying to stretch the advantage.
  • Roanoke enjoyed the lead until the top of the sixth. After a single and fielder's choice would give the Wasps their first out, back-to-back-to-back singles would plate a run and load the bases. After a pitching change, E&H would re-take the lead on a two-run error by the Maroons and a fielder's choice would give the Wasps a two-run advantage.
  • RC would close the gap when Rebecca Hensley delivered a single and advanced on a passed ball. Trapuzzano singled to score Hensley. However, RC was unable to tie the game.
  • The Maroons would have one last chance in the bottom of the seventh when Lee recorded a one-out single. Lee advanced into scoring position on a Sirbaugh walk and the duo would move up a base on a Scarlett Sisson sacrifice bunt, but Cameron Derr induced a fly ball to end the game.
  • Trapuzzano was a perfect 4-4 with a run scored. Hensley went 3-5 and Lee added a 2-4 evening.
