How It Happened
The Generals opened the scoring with 4:00 on the first quarter clock as Josh Breece scored on a 17-yard run. E&H tied the contest at 7-7 on the next drive as sophomore wide receiver Jermawn Ford (District Heights, Md.) caught a four-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Kyle Short (Lebanon, Ohio).
In the second, the Wasps went ahead 14-7 on a 29-yard scamper by senior running back Devontae Jordan (Bassett, Va.). Washington and Lee knotted the score again as Cody Kirkland plunged in from one-yard out after an interception return by Dean Johnson put the ball on the E&H one yardline.
Emory & Henry scored once more on an eight-yard run by Jordan with 44 seconds to go in the half to make the score 21-14 at the intermission.
In the second half, W&L tied things up at 21 on a 34-yard run by Jacob Romero and went ahead 27-21 thanks to a 29- and a 39-yard field goal by Arturo Ramirez with 6:44 to go in the fourth.
With time running down, the Wasps went down the field 75 yards in five plays as Short hit senior wide receiver Kashawn Cosey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) for a 52-yard catch-and-run to make it a 28-27 contest.
After a pair of punts, the Generals got the ball back with 2:50 to go and drove to the E&H 36 where the possession stalled. A 53-yard field goal attempt by Ramirez was short, but a penalty on the Wasps' defense gave W&L another shot. Three plays later Ramirez converted from 38 yards out as the clock hit 0:00 for the 30-28 final score.
