Averett defeated Roanoke 13-2

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 2 | Averett 13
Records: Maroons 14-7  | Cougars 6-15
Location: Danville, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke College stepped out of conference when they traveled to Averett to play a single game on Tuesday afternoon. The Maroons had defeated the Cougars on March 23rd. Averett score first before the Maroons would tie it up in the top of the third. However, 12 unanswered runs by the home team would send RC to the 13-2 non-conference loss.

How it Happened:

  • Averett got the scoring started with a run off a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.
  • Josh Dawson started the top of the third reaching on an error and advancing with a stolen base. Peter Nichols drove home Dawson to tie the score at 1-1.
  • The Cougars would re-take the lead in bottom half and added two runs one inning later. The sixth and seventh innings would see Averett break open the game and pull away with nine runs.
  • Roanoke would get one more run in the top of the ninth when PK Cocolis singled to drive home Noah Basham.
  • Cocolis, Nichols, and Troy Ferrell were each 1-2 at the plate with Cocolis and Nichols driving in the two RC runs.

Up Next: Roanoke gets back to Old Dominion Athletic conference (ODAC) play tomorrow when they host Emory & Henry for a 7pm game at Salem Memorial Ballpark.
