NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team continued their undefeated season with a 12-11 win over Virginia Wesleyan College. This is the third year in a row that the Captains have beaten the Marlins.

Virginia Wesleyan put the first goal up just two minutes into the game but CNU answered under a minute later with a goal from Kaitlin Quigley. The Marlins scored again before the Captains went on a five-goal run to go up 6-2.Virginia Wesleyan scored three straight to pull within one at the end of the half.

The Marlins struck first in the second half to tie the game at six apiece. The Captains scored the next two to regain the lead. The Marlins put another goal up and the Captains scored another pair to take a three goal lead.

Virginia Wesleyan took advantage of a free position to score their eighth goal of the game and again the Captains answered with two more to go up 12-8. With 3:36 remaining in the game the Marlins scored to pull within three. They scored again at 1:18 and with 30 seconds left to pull within one but the Captains were able to hang on to their lead for a 12-11 win.

Leading the Captains was Quigley with four goals. Ashton Marshall and Lauren King each had three while Meghan Harkey had two goals and two assists. Quigley led the team with five ground balls and Monica Evans led with four draw controls.

Hannah Wilkerson made 12 saves for the Captains as she earned her sixth win of the season.

The Captains are on the road this weekend as they play Ferrum on Saturday at 1:00pm and Roanoke on Sunday at 1:00pm.
