Men’s Hoops Loses to Eastern Mennonite 101-79

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Eastern Mennonite outscored Frostburg State in both halves and ran away for a 101-79 victory in non-conference men’s basketball action, Tuesday.

EMU (3-0) shot 47.2 percent from the field (34-of-72) and grabbed a 37-28 lead after the first half. The Royals continued their momentum in the second half and survived a Bobcat (1-2) run for a 64-51 scoring advantage.

FSU senior Christian Jackson led the visitors in scoring with 15 points followed by classmate DeSean Antoine with 13 points behind three three-pointers. FSU shot just 40.3 percent from the field (25-of-62) and was outrebounded 50-34.

Eastern Mennonite had four players in double figures, including three starters. Andrew Thorne led all players with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Antoine drilled a three-pointer at 17:04 as Frostburg jumped out to a 10-3 lead and set the tone in the opening minutes. FSU held the lead at 8:49 until EMU tied the game for the second time. Over the next eight minutes EMU grabbed a 13-point edge, 37-24.

The Bobcats built some momentum early in the second half and challenged the hosts over the first six-plus minutes. Sophomore Bobby Bates hit a three-pointer at 14:22 that cut the squad’s 11-point halftime deficit to just four, 47-43.

The Royals rebounded and collected the momentum behind a 17-5 run that handed them a 64-48 lead.
EMU extended its lead to a game-high 26 points, 89-63, with 3:07 to play.

FSU travels to Shenandoah on Monday for a 7:00 pm tipoff.
