The Lead: The Quarterfinals of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Soccer Tournament got started on Tuesday afternoon when the Maroons traveled to top ranked Virginia Wesleyan. Neither team would score in the opening half with the Marlins enjoying a shot edge. The match would remain scoreless heading into the final minutes when a Virginia Wesleyan goal with just 1:40 on the clock would advance the Marlins to the semifinal round.

Highlights:

  • Virginia Wesleyan out-shot Roanoke during the first 45 minutes, 10-4, but the score would remain scoreless thanks in part to five saves by Carrington Lippi.
  • The Maroons would take seven, second half, shots but could not score and the match stayed at 0-0 heading into the final minutes of play.
  • Back-to-back saves by Lippi at the 86-minute mark kept the Maroons hopes alive.
  • With 1:40 remaining on the clock, the Marlins got an unassisted goal by Mackenzie Kerns to give Virginia Wesleyan the lead and they held on for the 1-0, Tournament advancing, win.
