UMW Baseball Falls to #6 Shenandoah, 16-4, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 16-4 decision to visiting Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 14-6 on the season.

The Hornets built a lead steadily through the early innings, scoring one in the second, two in the third, and three in the fourth. The Eagles responded with a pair in their half of the fourth, as Bobby Ayscue connected for a two-run homer to left.

Shenandoah added one in the fifth and four in the sixth, before the Eagles added on in the sixth as well. Ayscue doubled and scored on an RBI single from Ryan Schwarz. The Hornets put up two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth. The Eagles capped the scoring as Philip Woodard was hit by a pitch and scored on a Jacob Christenbury single.

Ayscue led the offense with a double, homer, two runs scored, and two RBI. Christenbury added a pair of hits.

Lowe absorbed the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits in 3.0 innings of work. Seven Eagle pitchers saw action on the day.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday when they host John Carroll University at noon for a doubleheader.
