The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team traveled to Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon. The game was moved up three hours to try to beat the impending storms in a matchup of teams tied for second place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings. The Hornets used a 7-0 to end the second quarter and start the third to pull away for the 20-10 ODAC win.

How it Happened:

  • The two ODAC rivals would play the first quarter to a 2-2 draw. Lynchburg would enjoy a one-goal lead twice during the first 15 minutes. Ethan Caldwell would tie it up at the 7:39 mark and then with just over 3:30 on the clock, George Gilbert scored a man up goal off a feed from Luke Kammerman,
  • The second frame would start the same way, Lynchburg taking a lead then Owen Curry scoring the equalizer. The Hornets would answer just nine seconds later but Jay Frye made it 4-4.
  • The final 10 minutes of the first half and four minutes into the third period would see Lynchburg score seven unanswered goals to seize control of the matchup.
  • Wyatt Whitlow would stop the Hornets run but only briefly as Lynchburg closed the third period with five more scores to take an 18-5 advantage into the final quarter of play.
  • Down 19-5, Roanoke would score four straight to close the gap but time would run out on the Maroons as Lynchburg picked up the 20-10 win.
  • Gilbert netted three goals with Kammerman handing out three assists. In goal, Matt Federau made 11 stops before giving way to Taylor Lewis for the final period with Lewis recording four stops.

Up Next: Roanoke will host their arch rivals from Hampden-Sydney next Saturday at Kerr Stadium. The game with the Tigers is scheduled to start at 3:30pm.
