The Lead: For the third time in as many matches, the Roanoke College women's soccer team was on the road, this time a trip to face Christopher Newport was on the schedule. The Maroons took their 5-0 record to start the campaign to Newport News. The home team struck early, scoring a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes of play. Roanoke would net a late score, but it wasn't enough as CNU defeated the Maroons, 4-1.  

Highlights:

  • Just 2:35 into the matchup, the Captains would score from 20 yards out on the left side to take a 1-0 advantage.
  • About 10 minutes later, Christopher Newport would use a header off a corner kick to add to their lead. CNU would add two more late first half scores to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
  • The home team would enjoy a 13-3 shot edge during the first 45 minutes of play.
  • The Roanoke defense was able to keep CNU off the scoreboard during the second half despite 14 shots from the Captains.
  • With 3:30 left to play, Morgan O'Neill was able to out-run the defense to the ball and beat the keeper to get Roanoke on the board.
  • Carrington Lippi started in goal and registered a pair of first half saves. Taylor Gallik came in for the second half and recorded five saves without yielding a goal.

Up next: The Maroons return home to face Pfeiffer at Kerr Stadium. The match with the Falcons is scheduled to start at 5:00pm on Saturday evening.
