The Basics
Score:  Roanoke 15 | Christopher Newport 11
Records: Maroons 5-2 / 1-0 ODAC | Captains 4-5
Location: Newport News, Va.

The Lead: After picking up a non-conference win at Lynchburg on Thursday, the Maroons made the trip east to face Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon. Roanoke would take a 7-6 lead into the half and an 11-9 edge into the fourth quarter. Four consecutive RC goals put the game away as the Maroons went on to the 15-11 victory.

How it Happened:

  • Lilly Blair scored back-to-back goals and Maddie Stopkoski made it a 3-0 Roanoke lead. Two Captain scores would make it 3-2 after one period of play.
  • Sydney Harrison scored on a free position opportunity but CNU answered right away. Blair and Harrison scored ahead of a Molly Kasemeyer to Tiernan Connor score to make it 7-3. However, the home team closed the first half on a 3-0 run to make it 7-6 at the break.
  • Blair and Libby Bowman grew the RC lead to three to start the second half. The two teams would trade goals the remainder of the third period, scores by Stopkoski and Grace Koutouzis giving the Maroons an 11-9 lead with just 15-minutes remaining.
  • Koutouzis found Emerson Foster to start a four-goal run for the Maroons. After goals by Kasemeyer, Blair, and Riley Chase, the RC lead was 15-9. A pair of Christopher Newport scores made the final 15-11.
  • Five goals and one assist for Blair, Harrison and Stopkoski added two scores apiece. Claire Eisenhart and Natalie Mason each caused three turnovers for the Maroons. Kyleigh Chickering got the win in goal, making nine saves.
