ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team rallied from an early deficit to win their home opener 4-2 on Friday against non-conference foe Bridgewater College (Va.).

Junior 2B Davie Morgan began the rally with his leadoff solo home run in the 6th inning. He then drove in sophomore SS Tyson Bass in the seventh inning to tie the game at two.

After the third consecutive error by Bridgwater in the 7th inning with the bases loaded, the Bishops would cash in and take advantage as first baseman Nate Hibbs drove in 3B Jackson Hobbs for the go-ahead run and a 3-2 lead. Hobbs then singled in pinch-hitter Cord Butler in the 8th inning to give the Bishops an insurance run and a 4-2 lead.

Junior reliever Chandler Padgett got the win for the Bishops pitching 3 shutout innings of relief of starter Derrick Carter while striking out five. Carter had thrown five innings allowing just two runs (one earned) on 6 hits with zero walks and 2 strikeouts.

Sophomore closer Danny Thompson then came on in the ninth and after struggling with his command by walking three, Thompson would come back strong and wiggle out of trouble with three big strikeouts for the save.

The two foes will be right back in action on Saturday when they battle in an 11:00 doubleheader from Bauer Field.
