The Lead: The weather forced Roanoke to postpone their mid-week double header, so the Maroons traveled to Lynchburg to face the Hornets having not played in a week. Roanoke raced out to an early lead in the opening game with a pair of 2-run home runs on their way to a 4-2 win. Game two would see a Roanoke rally give the Maroons a 4-3 lead. However, the Hornets would re-rally scoring two in the fifth and two more in the sixth on their way to a 7-4 split.

Highlights:

  • Jordyn DiFava singled ahead of a two-out, two-run home run by Rachel Sirbaugh in the top of the first.
  • Lynchburg got one back in the bottom of the second bringing Roanoke to the plate in the top of the third. DiFava singled up the middle and scored on a Shanan Hester home run to deep left as the Maroons pushed their lead to 4-1.
  • Katelyn Craghead opened the sixth inning with a base hit to right field. Madison Courts had a single and the duo advanced on a wild pitch. However, Roanoke was unable to add to it's lead and the game went into the bottom half.
  • Lynchburg was able to cut into the Roanoke lead in the bottom half as the Maroons took a 4-2 edge into the final inning.
  • Jada Karnes allowed a free pass before inducing a lineout to seal the win. Karnes won her 13th game of the season with a complete game, seven hit, two run, three strikeout effort.
  • Hester and Sirbaugh provided all the offense that Roanoke needed with two-run home runs. DiFava and Kate Houle each finished 2-4.

Highlights:

  • DiFava singled in the top of the third to plate Riley Croghan as Roanoke took an early advantage.
  • Lynchburg would take the lead thanks to three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Roanoke would rally to retake the lead in the fifth. Meri Bostic walked and stole second. Hester blasted her second, two-run, home run of the day to tie the game at 3-3. Sirbaugh doubled and scored on a Makayla Austin base hit to put the Maroons back in front, 4-3.
  • The Hornets would pull in front 7-4 after two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Roanoke looked to rally once again in the bottom of the seventh. Houle reached on a base hit and would move to third on an Austin double. A Lauren Hoffman sacrifice fly would get RC to 7-5. With a runner on third, Lynchburg recorded a strikeout to earn a split with a 7-5 win over the Maroons.
  • Hester was 1-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. Houle finished 2-3 while Austin was 2-4 with an RBI. Hester got the start on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings, giving up nine hits and five earned runs while striking out six.

Up next: The Maroons will be right back in Lynchburg tomorrow when they travel to face Randolph College for a 1:00pm first pitch.
