WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's wrestling team earned its first dual meet victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a non-league victory over the University of Scranton.
 
Shenandoah (1-0) won the final three matches of the day to pull away from the Royals (3-4).
 
IN BRIEF
Trailing 18-17 after William Laughlin earned a 9-3 decision at 174 lbs. over Dylan Weaver, the Hornets retook the match lead as Hunter Thompson won by technical fall (15-0) over Jonathan Sklavounos in 5:34.
 
Up next in the penultimate match of the contest, Dylan Wiegert clinched the team victory with a win by fall over Joseph Cosgrove at 5:33 of the 197 lb. contest.

With the team result clinched, Bryan Guzman finished off the victory by winning, 7-3, over Hunter Marhan at 285.
 
Shenandoah also had wins at 133, 141, and 149 with Sean Rinebolt and Cameron Hatchett recording pins at 4:08 and 6:18, respectively, of those first two matches.
 
David Smith polished off Kenneth Langenmayr by technical fall (17-0) at 6:53 of the match at 149.
 
Scranton took an 18-17 lead with decisions at 157 and 174 that sandwiched a pin at 165.
