The Lead: Saturday afternoon would see the Roanoke College softball team welcome Eastern Mennonite to Salem for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header. The Maroons wasted little time, scoring seven first inning runs on their way to a, five inning, 15-2 conference win in game one. Game two would once again see Roanoke race out to an early lead, plating five runs in the first two innings of play on their way to a shutout win.

How it Happened:

  • RC would send 12 batters to the plate in a first inning that would see seven runners reach home.
  • Rebecca Hensley singled and stole second, scoring on a Brooke Trapuzzano double. An error would allow Trapuzzanpo to score while another error made it first and third for the Maroons. Rachel Sirbaugh stole second setting the stage for a Makayla Austin ground out that scored Shanan Hester. Jordyn DiFava singled to score Sirbaugh and then made it 5-0 when she scored on a Meri Bostic double to left. Emma Eccles added an RBI single and scored on a Trapuzzano single to center.
  • Sirbaugh singled to lead off the second, advancing on a Jada Karnes base hit before scoring on a fielding error. Bostic added another RBI as did Hensley, Trapuzzano, and Hester to make it 12-0.
  • That was more than enough runs for Karnes who picked up the win, going four innings giving up three hits, two runs, and striking out a pair. Meagen Evans would record the final three outs, two via the strikeout.
  • Trapuzzano was a perfect 3-3 with a run and three RBI. Hensley was 2-2 with an RBI and pair of runs scored while Bostic was 2-2 with two runs and two RBI.
