The Lead: Roanoke college looked to get back on track when they welcomed Washington and Lee to the Cregger Center for a Saturday afternoon, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup. The Generals would hit nine of the 16 fist half 3-pointers to help build a 45-36 edge at the break. The visitors would hold the Maroons to 24% (7-29) shooting in the second half as Washington and Lee pulled away for the 77-57, ODAC, win.

How it Happened:

  • Efosa U-Edosomwan hit a jump shot to start the game before the Generals answered with their first made three-pointer of the first half. A Tripp Greene triple followed by a bucket from Kasey Draper allowing Roanoke to enjoy their largest lead of the afternoon, 7-3, in the early going.
  • Washington and Lee responded with eight of the next 12 to knot the game at 11-11 leading into the first timeout break of the afternoon. Out of the short break, the two, long-time, conference foes would trade the lead back and forth with RC leading by one (20-19) with 10-minutes left before the half.
  • The Generals scored the next six points but couldn't yet pull away as a Justin Kuthan layup made it a 27-26 game with 5:52 to play. W&L closed the first half on an 18-10 surge to take a nine-point lead into the break, 45-36.
  • Draper hit one from long range to open the second half and keep the Marrons within striking distance. However, Washington and Lee would begin to make it tough on the Roanoke offense, holding the Maroons to seven of 29 shooting during the second half and a 21-10 General run would essentially put the game away, 73-53, with just under four minutes remaining.
  • W&L shot 48% from the three-point line (12-25) and were perfect from the free throw line on their way to the 77-57 victory. Roanoke hit just five of their 21 attempts from long range and only converted six of their 16 free throw attempts.
  • U-Edosomwan and Kuthan each scored 13 while Draper added 11. Nick Price had team highs with six rebounds and five assists.

Up next: Roanoke is scheduled to make up their game with Ferrum on Monday night at 7:00pm. However, with the impending weather poised to hit the Roanoke Valley tomorrow, there is a possibility that the game will be moved. Please check back at www.roanokemaroons.com for updates.
