UMW Volleyball Tops Eastern Mennonite, 3-0, in Home Opener

Sophomore Jordan Lyons scored a double-double with team highs of 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the University of Mary Washington volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in the Eagles' home opener on Tuesday night at the Anderson Center. Game scores were 25-19, 25-16, 25-18.

The Eagles earned a hard-fought first game, 25-19, pulling away late in the frame. In the second, UMW raced out to a 12-6 lead, and never looked back for a 25-16 win. The third saw UMW pull away midway through the game, extending an 8-7 lead to 20-14, before claiming the win with three of the last four points.

In addition to Lyons' performance, freshman Emily Flamm had eight kills and junior Krista Rodgers added seven, both without an error. Junior Makenna Santinga added 24 assists, and Hannah Livermon scored eight digs.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at the Stevenson Invitational, as they face DeSales University at 8:00 p.m.
