Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College men's soccer team scored in the game's first twenty seconds and never looked back as the Lions downed visiting Emory & Henry College by the score of 3-1 in non-conference action. The victory is PC's third consecutive and moves the Lions to 3-1 on the season.
PC's
JUSTIN WHITAKER executed a penalty kick after
SIDNEY SMITH was fouled in the box on the game's opening series of action. Smith extended the lead to 2-0 in the game's 20:00 mark with a goal on an assist from
VINCENT THOMAS and that would be the score at intermission.
In the final 45:00 Whitaker then found the net again just nine minutes after half to move the Lions up 3-0 but E&H responded just three minutes later with a goal by Konnor Dozark with the assist coming from Will Bodfish.
E&H would continue to pressure the Lion defense late but could not close the gap. Offensively only one shot separated the teams (15-14 in E&H's favor) with both squads gettin seven shots on goal.
Defensively the Lions were again solid despited having the opposition find the net for the first time since the season-opener.
"I thought that was the best first half we have played the entire season. It was nice to see our kids finish chances and it was nice to get the PK early in the game. I felt like in the second half we battled as hard as we could and were fortunate to come up with the victory," stated head coach
Jimmy Stephens.
Piedmont will open up its first-ever season of USA South Athletic Conference play on Friday with a 3:00 kick off at Ferrum College.
