The Lead: Roanoke College made the trip to Ashland to face the Yellow Jackets in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header. The Maroons jumped on their hosts to take a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning. The Yellow Jackets used a six-run seventh inning to take their first lead of the afternoon and held on for the 7-5 win. In the second game, the Maroons held an 11-6 lead but another Yellow Jacket, late inning, rally would see Roanoke fall, 14-11.

Highlights:

  • Roanoke started the game with a Jacob Bonzon single. After a steal of second, Bonzon moved to third on an Owen Lawn base hit to left field. Jonny Wall walked to load the bases before a Conner Butler base hit plated a pair. Wall came home on a Hunter Andrews ground out to stake the Maroons to a 3-0 lead.
  • The lead would grow to 4-0 in the third inning when an Andrews base hit scored Butler.
  • After giving up a run in the bottom of the fifth, the game was 4-1 heading into the home half of the seventh inning. Five Yellow Jacket hits and a pair of Roanoke errors would see six cross the plate as Randolph-Macon surged ahead, 7-4.
  • The Maroons answered in the eighth with a Mason Staz triple that would score Butler to pull Roanoke to within two runs. However, that was as close as Roanoke would get as they fell to RMC, 7-5, in the opener.
  • Will Turner went seven innings, giving up nine hits, five earned runs, and four strikeouts. Butler finished 3-4 with a pair of runs and two RBI. Andrews added two hits and two RBI with Bonzon adding two more stolen bases, his 14th and 15th of the season.

Highlights:

  • Andrews singled home Wall in the top of the first to give RC and early lead once again. Macon answered to tie the game after one complete.
  • Jeb Byerley homered to allow the Maroons to re-take the lead but once again the Yellow Jackets answered, this time with a pair of runs to take a 3-2 edge into the third.
  • This time it was the Maroons that posted the big inning. Butler drew a free pass and advanced on a Lawn base hit. Troy Ferrell singled through the left side to load the bases for a, 2-RBI, single by Staz. PK Cocolis cleared the bases with a double to right center and would score on a Bonzon ground out to make it 7-3.
  • Roanoke pushed their advantage to 10-3 in the sixth. Wall walked and stole second, advancing to third on another Butler base hit. A failed pick-off attempt would allow Wall to score and Lawn made it 10-3 with a blast over the left field fence.
  • The Jackets would not go quietly as they responded in the bottom half with three runs.
  • Staz singled and stole second before scoring on Byerley single to put RC back in front by five, 11-6.
  • Roanoke would not be able to add to their lead and with four in the bottom of the seventh and four more in the eighth, the Yellow Jackets had completed a second straight comeback over the Maroons and swept the series, 14-11.
  • Caleb Lingenfelter got the start and gave up nine hits and five earned runs over 5.1 innings of work. The Maroon bullpen got touched up for eight runs in 2.2 innings of relief. Staz, Lawn, and Byerley combined to go 9-14 with five runs, six RBI and a stolen base.
