Salem Tennis Ends Season On Four-Match Winning Streak

ROANOKE, Va. –
The Salem tennis team ended the 2022 campaign on a four-match winning streak after claiming a 6-3 win over Hollins in non-conference action on Saturday, April 23rd. The Spirits won six of their final seven matches to finish the slate with a 6-7 overall mark.

Krishna Agrawal and Amelia Shaw provided Hollins with the first point of the match, defeating Haley Gilley and McKinley Rice by a score of 8-6 in the clash of No. 1 doubles. Salem (6-7) answered by claiming the next two doubles points, with the duo of Alyson Gammons and Alyssa Cosentino posting and 8-5 win over Hannah Miller and Anna Vreelin in No. 2 action.

The duo of Gina Franco and Ashley Linden provided Salem with a 2-1 lead in the match, downing Carlia Kenney and Shulaby by a score of 8-4.

Agrawal claimed her second point of the afternoon in No. 1 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gilley. However, Salem received a 6-2, 6-0 victory from Gammons, who defeated Izzy Ingwerson in No. 4 play. Linden provided the Spirits with another victory in No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-4), defeating Emily Jones.

Franco clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles over Hollins' Claire Guill. The two teams split the final two singles matches with Shaw handing Rice a 7-6 (7-2) 6-1 setback in No. 2 singles. However, the Spirits ended the afternoon and season on a positive note with a 6-2, 5-7, 12-10 victory by Cosentino over Kearney in third flight singles.

Salem ends the regular season with a sixth-place finish in the USA South East Division standings, narrowly missing the league tournament.
