The Lead: The Roanoke College women's soccer team was on the road for the third time in as many Sundays as they traveled to face Virginia Wesleyan. The Maroons would out-shoot their hosts but an early Marlins goal was the difference as Virginia Wesleyan would hold on for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win, 1-0.

Highlights:

  • In the first 15 minutes of the match, Roanoke would get four shots on goal. Eliza Ryan, Tessa Walsh, and two shots by Morgan O'Neill were all stopped by Marlin keeper Rachel Quigley.
  • After another pair of RC shots were off the mark, the home team took advantage of their first scoring opportunity. Mia Meinhardt took a pass from Gracie Mullins and gave VWU the lead, 1-0.
  • Ryan got another shot on net late in the first half but Quigley recorded her fifth save of the first half.
  • After seeing just one shot during the first 45 minutes, Taylor Gallik stopped all six Virginia Wesleyan shots on goal during the second half to give Roanoke a chance.
  • After enjoying a 10-1 shot edge in the first half, Roanoke would see the Marlins tilt the field as the home team would out-shoot the Maroons in the second half.
  • The Maroons got one last chance to tie in the closing minute but the shot was turned aside by Quigley for her eighth save of the match.
  • Walsh, Ryan, and O'Neill would each register three shots on the afternoon.

Up next: Roanoke will kick off a three match home stand next Sunday when they host Shenandoah.
