SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort to get back into the win column, posting a 72-60 victory over Shenandoah University in nonconference action on Friday afternoon in the Puerto Rico Clasico.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored the final five points of the first half and took a 37-32 advantage into the locker room at the intermission. The Auggies extended their lead to double digits off a pair of three-pointers by
Henry Mulligan (SR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) and were able to extend their advantage to as many as 17 points down the stretch.
• Augsburg was led offensively by Mulligan, who was 5-for-8 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range. Mulligan is tied for the team lead this season with 20 threes, while posting a team-best 45.5-percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
• For the third time this season,
James Streeter (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored in double figures, finishing with 11 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, while adding three rebounds.
• Also finishing in double figures was
Joe Palmer (FY, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS), who scored an Auggie career-best 11 points, while adding four rebounds.
• Leading Augsburg on the boards wasÂ
Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) and
Devon Hannah (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Minneapolis Roosevelt HS), who grabbed five rebounds apiece.
• For the third time this season, Augsburg shot 50.0 percent or better from the field. The Auggies finished 26-for-52 from the field and 9-of-26 (34.6 percent) from three-point range. The Hornets connected on 44.0 percent (22-of-50) of their shot attempts and were held to just 5.9 percent (1-of-17) from beyond the arc.Â
• Augsburg posted a 35-30 advantage on the boards and a 13-5 advantage in second chance points. Despite an even 16 turnovers apiece, Augsburg posted a 20-10 advantage in points off turnovers. The Auggie bench also stepped up, outscoring the Shenandoah reserves 38-25.
FOR THE FOES
• The Hornets were led by a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double from Christopher Chaney.
• Jalen Hill scored a team-best 14 points, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• This is believed to be the first men's basketball meeting between the Auggies and the Hornets (records dating to the 1960 season).

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/21) at 6:30 p.m., taking on St. Mary's College of Maryland in the Puerto Rico Clasico. The game will be played at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in San Juan.
