The Lead: One semifinal of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Hockey Tournament would see the #3 seeded Maroons travel to face the #2 Generals of Washington and Lee. Roanoke scored off a penalty corner less than two minutes into the matchup. The Maroons would hold the advantage until the fourth quarter. With just over 10 minutes to play, the home team would score to tie the game and then take the lead with a score off a penalty corner five minutes later. The lead would hold as Roanoke fell to the Washington and Lee rally, 2-1.

Highlights:

  • The Maroons would take advantage of an early penalty corner. Just 1:40 into the game, Emilee Wooten would score off an assist by Claudia Roncone.
  • W&L had two chances to tie the game in the first period but both shots were saved by Hannah Roerden.
  • Thanks in part to five penalty comers, the Generals would out-shoot Roanoke 6-2 during the second quarter but RC would keep their 1-0 lead.
  • Roerden made three consecutive stops in the early stages of the second half to keep Roanoke in front. The Maroons would switch the field and took the final five shots of the third period but couldn't add to their advantage.
  • The Roanoke lead would hold until the 49th minute. A long run by the W&L player would allow her to send a clean shot towards goal that was tipped in by a teammate to tie the score at 1-1.
  • With just over five minutes left on the clock, the Generals would use their 12th penalty corner to set up the go ahead score.
  • Roerden finished with a season high nine saves. Wooten got four shots on goal while Martha Hurley added two.
