R-MC Tops Johns Hopkins 76-42; Jordan Brown Notches 1,000th Point

ASHLAND, VA – Tournament Most Outstanding Player Brandon Braxton led four Yellow Jackets in double figures with 16 points as No. 11 Randolph-Macon topped Johns Hopkins, 76-42, in the final game of the 2010 R-MC Coaches Classic Sponsored by Kay Jewelers.

R-MC (10-2) also got double digits from fellow all-tournament selections Danny Jones and Jordan Brown who both had 13 points. Brown also became the 39th player in R-MC Basketball History to reach the 1,000 point milestone; he now has 1,008 points for his career. Eric Pugh also chipped in with 11 points in the victory as well.

Braxton pulled down a game-high eight boards, while Kevin Voelkel grabbed six balls off the glass to help R-MC to a 36-25 in that category.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game with 20-4 run over the first nine minutes of the game and would take a 21 point advantage into the locker room at halftime, using a 13-of-26 shooting performance to stake themselves to a 36-15 lead at intermission.

The Jackets put the game out of reach by scoring the first eight points of the second half, taking a 45-16 lead when Pugh knocked down a three-pointer with just under 19 minutes to play.

JHU (2-7) was led by all-tournament choice Mike Rhoads who had a team-high 10 points along with Aleksandar Nikolic.

Averett's Kenny Hart was also named to the all-tournament team, while Cameron Cook from Hood was also selected.

Randolph-Macon will jump back into ODAC play on Wednesday when it travels to first-place Randolph for a 7:00 p.m. game.
