Women’s Tennis Fall in Close Matchup in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (2-7) fell in a thrilling match, 5-4, to Bridgewater College (5-2) on Friday evening at the PTR Spring Fest in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. 

Bridgewater used two doubles victories and split singles play to earn the close victory. 

Hannah Hersh and Brooke Garland teamed up to earn an 8-6 victory in number-two doubles, but the Eagles claimed wins in number one and three doubles to take a 2-1 lead. 

Malena Hoover earned a three-set win over Hersh in the top-flight singles match, coming from behind to win the second set 7-6 before a 10-8 win in the third set. Hamrick Perry matched up against Rachel Crawford in number two singles, with Crawford ending the match in the third set with a 10-2 set victory. 

Alli Kogoy, Sophie Trantham, and Garland won singles matches 3-5, but the Eagles were able to pull away with the match win, 5-4.

Brevard will face Lawrence Tech on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Chaplin Park in Hilton Head Island.
