The Basics
Score: Roanoke 1 | Bridgewater 2

Records: Maroons 2-2-1 / 2-2-1 ODAC | Eagles 6-0 / 5-0 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons hosted Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon. After defeating Emory & Henry last week, Roanoke looked to run their home record to 3-0 against an Eagles team that came into the match with a perfect 4-0 conference record. Bridgewater scored half way through the second half and added to their lead in the final five minutes. The Maroons got a late score but fell to the Eagles, 2-1.

Highlights:

  • Prior to the start of the match, Roanoke took a moment to honor their four seniors. Lucy Perry, Ellie Schad, Tessa Walsh, and Delaney Weston were honored for everything they have done for the program over the past four seasons.
  • Neither team scored during the first 45 minutes of play. RC would enjoy a 7-6 edge in shots but only one of their shots would be on goal. Carrington Lippi kept the score at 0-0 takes in part to five first half saves.
  • Just past the 65 minute mark, Bridgewater was able to break the tie with a goal by Destiny Zapata.
  • 20 minutes later Zapata would make it 2-0 Eagles.
  • With just over three minutes to play, Eliza Ryan made it a one goal spread. However, the Maroons would not be able to score the equalizer and Bridgewater held on for the ODAC win.
  • Walsh led the way with five shots while MC Petrucelli added four. Lippi went the distance in goal, registering seven saves.

Up next: Roanoke will kick off a two match road trip when they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a night match on Thursday, March 25th.
