Tigers Hang Tough During First Half Before Falling at No. 5 Lynchburg

Box Score The Colorado College men's lacrosse team gave the University of Lynchburg all it could handle for the most of the first half, but the fifth-ranked Hornets stung CC with nine consecutive goals and pulled away for 23-8 victory on Sunday night at Shellenberger Field.

Elliot Nelson scored two of his three goals during a four-goal run that tied the score at 6-6 with a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half, but Lynchburg's Ryan Kenny answered 20 seconds later to put the Hornets ahead to stay.

Colorado College's deficit stayed at 7-6 for nearly five minutes until Kenney struck again, and Lynchburg added three more goals to build a 10-6 cushion after 30 minutes.

The Hornets struck for the first five goals of the second half to extend their lead to nine before long-pole defender Sam DiMaio stopped the run with his second goal of the season.

Dylan Wells gave the Tigers their only lead when he scored 1:19 into the first quarter, and CC kept Lynchburg off the board until Kyle Lewis found the net with 9:20 on the clock to ignite a 5-0 run.

Nelson's first marker made the score 5-2, and after Colin Dean got one back for the Hornets, Nelson's man-up goal started a four-goal surge that included tallies from freshmen Dylan Brown and Declan Maguire.

Winston Chodnicki won 16 off 29 faceoffs and led Colorado College with six ground balls.

Lynchburg finished with a 61-29 advantage in total shots and a 45-35 edge in ground balls.
