UMW Men's Lax Falls to Hampden-Sydney, 17-9, on Rainy Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 decision to Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday afternoon at a rainy Battleground. The Eagles slip to 5-4 on the season.

The Tigers used a four-goal streak in a four minute span minutes into the game to gain the advantage. UMW answered with a score from Hunter Tipton with 4:23 left in the first to draw to within 4-1, but the Tigers responded with two scores to lead, 6-1, after 15 minutes. In the second, Hampden-Sydney outscored the Eagles, 5-1, with the UMW score coming from Owen Castleman on a J.D. Nozemack assist with 5:31 left.

The Eagles started the third quarter with a score from Cameron Walker on a Nozemack assist with 14:11 on the clock. AFter the Tigers rallied for four scores, the Eagles netetd another with 3:51 left, on a goal from Walker. The Eagles finished with a strong fourth quarter, as Nozemack scored three times and Garrett Keogh added one, and Tipton added a man up score.

Nozemack led UMW with three goals and three assists, while Walker and Tipton had two goals each.

The Tigers led in shots, 49-42, as well as in ground balls, 45-37. UMW goalie Riley Green made 10 saves in 45 minutes for the Eagles, while John Staugaitis won 16-23 faceoffs.

UMW will return to action on Saturday, when the Eagles visit Marymount University at 1:00 p.m.
