ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Softball team split their series with Guilford College at home on Sunday afternoon. The Bishops cruised to a game one win 6-1 before falling 6-4 in game two.

GAME 1: NCWC 6, GC 1

Wesleyan rolled to a game one win behind 7 sharp innings from freshman starter Emily Humphrey and home runs from Humphrey and freshman outfielder Juliette Desmarais.

Freshman 2B Skyler Walker stole home in the first inning for the Bishops' first run before they added a second run on an Abby Todd RBI single. Another Todd RBI single in the third was followed by Humphrey's two-run homer in the 4th that made it 5-0 before Desmarais' solo shot made it 6-1 in the 6th.

Humphrey (5-2) finished the game throwing all 7 innings allowing just one run on 8 hits with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Todd led the team with a multi-hit game while Walker and senior SS Meredith Mize each stole two bases.

GAME 2: GC 6, NCWC 4

Wesleyan got out to a 1-0 lead early in game two with freshman pitcher Avery Jordan's RBI bunt single before Mize's RBI double made it 2-1 in the 5th.

Guilford would then put together a 4-run 6th inning off Jordan and freshman reliever Laila Holloway to take a 5-2 lead. Wesleyan got one back in the 6th on senior CF Logan Winstead's RBI single before the teams traded runs in the 7th. Wesleyan loaded the bases in the 7th, but could only cash in one run on Humphrey's RBI single.

Jordan (1-2) picked up the loss in the circle throwing 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits with no walks. Winstead and Todd led the team with two-hit games as well while Winstead is now batting a team-best .460 on the season.

The Lady Bishops go to 9-7 on the year while Guilford improves to 7-9.

Wesleyan returns to action on Thursday with a trip to Winston-Salem to battle Carolina University in a 2 PM DH.
