Late Surge Carries Maroons To Victory

Three unanswered scores lift Maroons to win over Shenandoah

The Lead: Roanoke traveled to Shenandoah looking to get back on track after falling to the #2 ranked Generals of W&L. The Maroons raced out to an 8-1 lead over the Hornets. However a later rally by Shenandoah would tie the score going into the final five minutes of play. Three unanswered RC scores would see the Maroons take the game 17-14.  

How it Happened:

  • Lilly Blair scored the first goal of the afternoon less than two minutes into the game. Over the next three minutes, Emerson Foster would score twice and Maddie Stopkoski added a goal to make it 4-0.
  • After the Hornets scored a player up, RC would answer with four more scores, two by Blair and a goal each for Foster and Stopkoski to make it 8-1 at the midway point of the first half.
  • Shenandoah would outscore Roanoke 6-2 the rest of the way to cut the Maroon advantage to 10-7 heading into the break.
  • The home team would tie the score at the 26:27 mark, 10-10. Ellie Armstrong would start another 4-0 surge with Blair, Stopkoski, and Riley Chase adding tallies.
  • With 15 minutes to play, Shenandoah would go a player up and score two goals in a one minute stretch. After two more Hornet scores the game was tied at 14-14 with nine minutes left on the clock.
  • The trio of Foster, Stopkoski, and Blair each scored to pull away late for the 17-14 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.
  • Blair finished with seven goals on just eight shots. Foster had four scores and two assists with Stopkoski adding four goals.
  • In net, Carly Schoudel went the distance to pick up the win, recording 10 saves.

Up Next: Roanoke will travel to Lynchburg to face the Hornets on Wednesday night for a 7:00pm start.
