#7 Ferrum Men’s Basketball Escapes 10th-Seeded Emory & Henry, 87-84, In ODAC Tournament First Round Tuesday

FERRUM, Va. – The #7 Ferrum College Men's Basketball Team (15-11) scored eight of the final 11 points of the game on its way to an 87-84 win over #10 Emory & Henry College (7-19) in the first round of the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Panthers advance to take on second-seeded and No. 16 nationally-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals on Friday.

How It Happened
- Ferrum got out to a 15-5 lead four minutes into the game, but E&H closed the gap to 17-13 thanks in part to a pair of three-pointers by sophomore guard Anthony Williams (Lynchburg, Va.).  The Wasps hung around, getting to within one (35-34) with 3:14 left in the half, before the Panthers took a 45-40 advantage into the intermission.
- Emory & Henry started the second period with 10 of the first 15 points to tie the contest at 50. The Wasps got their first lead of the game, 53-52, with 15:00 to play, but 11-straight by the Panthers over a span of 2:40 made the score 63-53.
- Down by 11 (71-60), E&H went on an 18-5 run to retake the advantage, 78-76, with 4:13 left to play. The squads traded baskets with the Wasps going ahead 84-83 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jordan Grant (Orlando, Fla.) with 1:46 on the clock. Ferrum was able to go back ahead two possessions later and held on for the 87-84 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Williams led all players with 25 points, going 8-for-16 from the field with five three-pointers. He pulled down six rebounds and added two steals.
- Senior guard Colin Molden (Apex, N.C.) had 14 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals in his final game while sophomore guard Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) pitched in 15 points and three boards.
- Freshman forward Dylan Catron (Chilhowie, Va.) notched 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Ferrum Individual Leaders
- Carrington Young led the Panthers with 20 points and seven rebounds, going 6-for-9 from the field and 8-for-11 at the line. Kajuan Madden-McAfee pitched in 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
- Nick Helton had 17 points and six rebounds off the bench while Rashad Reed notched 10 points, three rebounds and three steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63) for the game with 12 three-pointers, and made 12-of-14 (85.7%) of its free throws.
- Ferrum went 33-for-66 (50%) from the field with nine makes from long range. The Panthers were12-of-19 (63.2%) from the charity stripe.
- FC held a 40-30 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H by a 46-36 margin on points in the paint.
- Second-chance point and points off turnovers were nearly identical for the two squads.

- Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the 2020 All-ODAC Teams which will come on Wednesday afternoon from the league office.
