Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Shuts Out Guilford, 9-0, To Open The Season Sunday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (1-0) entered the NCAA Division II era on Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 win over former Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Guilford College (0-1.).

How It Happened
Emory & Henry got out to a 3-0 lead through the doubles portion of the match. Sophomore Molly McMichael (Riner, Va.) and freshman Bronwyn McAlindon (Kingsport, Tenn.) had the best result at No. 3 doubles winning, 8-2. Freshman Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) and junior Payton Holt (Mount Ulla, N.C.) claimed an 8-3 win at No. 1 while sophomore Tess Flanigan (Marietta, Ga.) and senior Logan Graham (Radford, Va.) posted an 8-3 victory at No. 2.

In singles play, Chernega grabbed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top flight for her first collegiate win while Holt won, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2. Flanigan blanked her opponent at the third flight while McMichael won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (3), at No. 4. Graham closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
